New Job!

Nov

After my rant of a few weeks ago (about the difficulty of getting into games jobs) I have news…

From Jan 2010 I will be a Senior Developer for Traveler’s Tales – the guys behind Lego Star Wars and Lego Indiana Jones. Will be living in Cheshire during the week, and at home in Cardiff for weekends.

All change. :-)

Again, congratulations! Well deserved. Glad you’re moving your career in the direction you want :)

    Congrats dude. That’s awesome. :)

  3. Congratulations! That’s great news.

Whereabouts in Cheshire will you be based?

  4. admin says:

    Knutsford.

    Am currently room-hunting. :-)

  5. Ooo, that’s a nice area to be in. Lots of interesting places to eat.

Word of caution if you’re not actually in Knutsford, beware anything that involves you travelling to/from the Manchester direction on the A556 (towards the M56), it always used to be a ‘mare of an area for rush hour. I can’t see that it’s likely to have improved any recently.

Middlewich used to be a really nice mid-range option, but I was told it’s not quite so hot in recent years. (They built too many new homes.) Holmes Chapel is lovely (and still lives there. Northwich and Winsford will probably be cheaper still – can’t really vouch for them these days.

    Thanks for that!

Most likely places at the moment look like Knutsford itself or Altrincham.

Am hoping to cycle and/or take the train, rather than drive. We’ll see how it works out…

    Major congratulations my friend! :)

  10. Going back seven or so years, Altrincham was a nice place. (I worked on the outskirts for about 7 years, so grew kinda fond of it.)

If you can train across then that’s much better. Aunty Em is based in the southern half of Manchester. She might be a bit more up to date on where’s good.

    Cool. :)

What do they actually develop in these days? I’m guessing it’ll be some mash up of C++ but I’m somewhat out of touch.

    As for Knutsford …
Don’t have many memories of it these days. I was born in Northwich though and it’s OK round there. Altrincham is nice but expensive. If you’re getting stuck for somewhere ket me know and I’ll see if any of my rellies in the area have a spare bed on a temporary basis. ;)

  12. admin says:

What do they develop in: you know, having just signed a piece of paper, I’m probably not allowed to say. C++ is pretty standard across the industry, though… :-D

Thanks for the offer. I have a few options – that look affordable – that I’m going to go and take a look at this weekend. If I’m panicking, I’ll let you know!

  13. urasni says:

Cool – well if there’s any more jobs going there at any point let me know. ;) Parents would be delighted if we moved closer to them.

  14. admin says:

Remind me where you are at the moment?

  15. urasni says:

Sky Sports. Worked for ever more in eCommerce online betting/poker etc.

  16. admin says:

No, no, I meant location, not position. :-)

  17. urasni says:

    oh. :-o

Leeds. Parents live in Shropshire though.

  18. smokingboot says:

  20. eldelphia says:

Huge grats on the job :) but whilst there could you kill them for me? Because Lego Indiana Jones on the PSP drives me nuts >.>

    *cheer*

Awesome news, congrats. Echoing the sentiments that Knutsford is a nice part of the world. My parents are just down the road from there.

  22. itchyfidget says:

They’ve been widening the road, I think. It’s certainly better than it was …

  23. itchyfidget says:

If it’s not too far from your work, Altrincham and Hale are quite nice, though really you’re practically in Manchester at that point. But it would mean you could get in and out of town by tram instead of having to drive, should you wish.

  24. itchyfidget says:

(Oops, I know I congratulated you already, but yay again! YAY!)
